Course Description

The Art & Design course aims to foster a personal response by stimulating imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, powers of observation, and analytical ability. Through this course, learners develop technical skills in two- and three-dimensional form and composition, solving problems in visual and tactile forms. They also learn to nurture ideas from initial attempts to final solutions. This course serves as an ideal foundation for further study, cultivating an awareness of the role of visual arts in society and history, broadening cultural horizons, and enhancing individual experiences.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to enable students to:

  • Record from direct observation and personal experience
  • Identify and solve problems in visual and/or other forms
  • Foster creativity, visual awareness, critical and cultural understanding
  • Develop an imaginative, creative, and personal response
  • Cultivate confidence, enthusiasm, and a sense of achievement in art and design practices
  • Demonstrate growing independence in refining and developing ideas and personal outcomes
  • Engage and experiment with a range of media, materials, and techniques, including new media and technologies
  • Gain experience in relevant frameworks and explore manipulative skills in two and/or three dimensions
  • Acquire a working vocabulary relevant to the subject and develop an interest in and critical awareness of other practitioners, environments, and cultures
  • Develop investigative, analytical, experimental, interpretative, practical, technical, and expressive skills that support effective and independent learning.
