Course Description

The Law course is designed to develop learners' knowledge, understanding, and skills in various aspects. It focuses on in-depth subject content, independent thinking, the application of knowledge to new situations, evaluating different information sources, logical reasoning, and effective communication in English. Students are encouraged to appreciate the real-world relevance of law through an understanding of the main principles of the law in England and Wales. The course enhances analysis, problem-solving, and legal argumentation skills.

 

Course Objectives

The main objectives of the Law course are to enable students to understand legal concepts, principles, rules, and the functioning of the legal system in England and Wales. They will explore substantive areas of law, assess legal rules and institutions, and develop skills to effectively communicate legal interpretations, reasoning, and analysis.

 

Course Outline

The course focuses on key areas of law, including:

  • Law of Contract: Covering topics such as the formation, contents, discharge, and remedies for breach of a contract.
  • Law of Tort: Exploring areas such as negligence, torts affecting land and persons, general defenses, and remedies.

Through the study of these areas, students will develop transferable skills in working with legal concepts, analysing and applying legal principles, constructing persuasive arguments, and understanding the impact of law in real-life situations.
