Course Description

This course offers learners the opportunity to develop clear, accurate, and effective communication skills in both spoken and written English. The course focuses on vocabulary expansion, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to enhance language proficiency. Learners are encouraged to engage in extensive reading to broaden their understanding of the English language and its usage. Additionally, the course develops critical analysis and communication skills, enabling learners to present opinions, infer information, and organise facts effectively.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to enable students to read a wide range of texts fluently and comprehensively, critically analyse written materials, enhance writing skills with accuracy and effectiveness, apply evaluation and analysis skills to information and ideas, listen and comprehend spoken language, expand vocabulary, and develop knowledge of grammatical terminology and linguistic conventions.

Course Outline

Throughout the course, students will engage with diverse reading materials to inform and inspire their own writing. They will explore various text types and learn to write for different purposes and audiences. The course also emphasises the development of speaking and listening skills, including delivering presentations, engaging in conversations, and responding to questions.
